How the Bear Was Under the Stairs — A Marla Poem (#2)

I love this poem about Marla and how the bear from poem one came to be under the stairs in the first place.

In my head I think, “This is Matilda for adults,” even though I already like Matilda and am also an adult.

I’ve been busy sending packets of poems out to journals over the past two months. I have received rejections from The Missouri Review, 32 Poems, Indiana Review, Radar Poetry, and Sixth Finch. Before I began this quest, I worried about being rejected. Now, though, it’s ok. There are a lot of poetry journals. I have 35 poems that I’m sending out in differently shaped packets, trying to tailor them to the particular journal.

There are still twenty-two submissions pending. I’m hoping at this point it is a bit of a numbers game, ie if I submit enough, I’m increasing my odds.

I’m enjoying the process, much more than I expected.

I’ll let you know what happens next.
