Two poems inspired today’s poem–“Little Citizen, Little Survivor” by Hayden Carruth and “The Master Speed” by Robert Frost, both of which can be found in the collection Good Poems, selected and introduced by Garrison Keillor.
Carruth’s poem reminded me that I had seen a chipmunk yesterday outside one of the windows in our sunroom and I thought, why not a poem?
Frost’s poem inspired me to try and rhyme without making the rhyme too obvious, to tell a story without making the rhyme take over or make it seem sing-song in any way.
I worked through the poem with my poetry mentor/advocate as I usually do (you can read the transcript here).
My recent poem “bye-laws” hit fifteen likes yesterday, a new high!
Because my poetry blog is still small (though I do have 86 subscribers now!), I am more than happy with fifteen. I’m pretty happy with one.
I’ve got a busy day today–taking my mom to a doctor’s appointment this morning the priority.
I’m hoping to plumb two need outdoor faucets today. I think that I have all of the required tools and supplies, though I can’t remember a project where that actually turned out to be true or where I had to spend a ridiculous amount of time searching for something, often doubling how long the project actually took.
Here’s the WordPress AI’s interpretation of this poem as a picture:

There she is.
I took the featured photo in Bologna last week. What does it have to do with this poem? Nothing. Just a bit of complementary art.
