scattered

The title of this poem is an apt description of my thoughts this morning, working through the many things I’d like to do today, distracted with snow outside my window and a digital world that keeps knocking.

This poem itself took longer to write than I expected, working its way from six stanzas to four and discarding quite a bit that I really liked.

The message here is exactly what I need to hear though, that joy really is just an ask away.

The six stanza version of this poem also had too much rhyme, though this final poem also has more probably than it needs.

I felt though that a message of hope needs to have song within it, that if joy is a bird than of course it must be singing.

The picture here is a shot after snowplowing last night, the salt I’d just scattered doing its work to bring the black of our driveway back, the lights of our neighbor’s house giving just enough light for a shot at night without a flash.

And though I’m not a teacher, I still love snow days, days that remind me of possibility, that there is so much more to life than the thoughts in my head.
